Oxley Nursery: A Shopper's Guide

Why You Should Visit

From my experience, this nursery is a must-visit for plant lovers. Here's what you can expect:

  • Extensive Plant Variety: You'll find an incomparable selection of indoor, outdoor, and rare plants. Expect a wide range, from succulents and cacti to tropical plants and house plants. They have Cordylines and Lithops, among other hard-to-find specimens.
  • Quality Plants: The plants are consistently in very high quality. Oxley plants are robust and strong performers. Everything is in amazing condition.
  • Knowledgeable and Helpful Staff: The staff are welcoming, extremely knowledgeable, and passionate about their jobs. They're happy to give advice and go the extra mile to assist customers. I've personally seen them help keep plants alive!
  • Well-Organized Layout: The nursery is organized with plenty of space to wander around and discover different areas with tranquil vibes. There are "little nooks" to find some nice hard-to-find specimens.
  • Specialty Items and Events: You may find rare plants for sale, including during special events. They are also about to open a "VIP" section for members. They stock Hoyas, and occasionally host rare plant events.
  • Healthy Plants: Plants are always healthy.
  • Positive Shopping Experience: Staff members are ready to assist when in need, and are generally always with a customer.
  • Great for Browsing: The nursery is quite large, and you can expect to spend a long time browsing.

Why You Might Consider Alternatives

While I love this nursery, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Higher Pricing: The pricing is on the higher side, matching the quality. Be prepared to pay for the good stuff. Prices are similar to or higher than those at Bunnings.
  • Limited Parking: Be aware that car parking can be a challenge. Street parking is available, but it can be difficult, especially when purchasing multiple large pots. Loading bays are available if required.
  • Inconsistent Staff Guidance: While the staff is generally helpful, I’ve experienced instances where staff may direct you to the wrong location for specific items.
  • Potential for Theft Prevention Measures: You might see plants in locked cages due to a need for theft prevention.
