Shopping Guide: Down 2 Earth Garden Centre
Down 2 Earth Garden Centre: Your Shopping Guide
Based on my recent experience, I've compiled this guide to help you navigate your visit to Down 2 Earth Garden Centre. Here's what you can expect and what you might consider.
Why You Should Visit
This place is worth checking out, especially if you're in the market for plants. Here's why:
- Excellent Plant Selection: You'll find a wide variety of healthy plants, both indoor and outdoor. The inventory seems consistently well-maintained, with plenty of bedding plants available, even when other stores are struggling.
- Variety and Quality: Shoppers can expect a "big selection" of flowers, plants and gardening accessories. The quality is top-notch, and the plant material is considered to be of high quality. They offer a good selection without overwhelming you.
- Reasonable Prices: The prices seem quite competitive. I recently bought an indoor plant at a price that was half of what I would have paid elsewhere.
- Helpful and Knowledgeable Staff: The staff is consistently praised for their knowledge and willingness to help. They are friendly, welcoming, and eager to assist with your purchases. They seem knowledgeable about all kinds of plants. I've seen them offer thoughtful advice and help customers find the right soil.
- Owner Involvement: You'll likely interact with the owners, CJ and Ileana, who are actively involved. They are passionate and hands-on.
- Exceptional Service: Shoppers can expect service. They will load your car with a smile, help you pick out plants, and even drill drainage holes in your pots.
- Convenient Location: The location is on Parklawn, making it accessible from either The Queensway or QEW.
- Great for Beginners: The displays are clearly marked for beginners like myself, and staff provides guidance.
- Welcoming Atmosphere: The whole staff are so friendly, and are welcoming. Some customers also note they have a great hot look.
- Good for Small Businesses: You can tell they appreciate support from one small business to another.
Why You Might Consider Alternatives
While the positives are numerous, be aware of these potential downsides:
- Repotting Fees: Be aware that there may be additional charges for repotting. I was charged $5 to repot a succulent and to top up with their soil. This was charged before I had three plants to repot and was charged again on each.
- Finding What You Need: While there's a lot to choose from, I found it slightly challenging to find exactly what I was looking for, even with staff assistance.
- Potential for Misleading Pricing. The price may not be transparent before purchase.
Overall, my experience at Down 2 Earth Garden Centre has been positive. I'd definitely return, keeping in mind these minor points.
